~Faith~

“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭

Faith is always talked about. When someone is going through something, we tell them to have faith. Personally, I was taught to have faith at a very young age. I grew up in church and I was taught that Jesus loves me and we should stay faithful to Him.

Children believe anything. I know I did. I believed in the tooth fairy, Santa, and everything else little kids believe (except the Easter bunny. He freaked me out!). I eventually learned that they weren’t as real as I thought. The reason we believed them to be real was because we knew that Santa Clause would always bring us the presents we asked for, we believed the tooth fairy would always give us money for every tooth we pulled, and we believed the Easter bunny would hide candy eggs to make up for the fact that he scared us.

Story Time!!!

Children have faith in the smallest of things. When I was younger, I wanted to see snow. I live in Louisiana. Home of gators, crawfish, and humidity. Snow isn’t a common thing for us. I told my mom that I wanted it to snow. She told me just to pray and ask Jesus for it to snow, and to have faith that it will. So I prayed for it to snow for Christmas. Also, this was in July.

Christmas came. I woke up to a fresh blanket of humidity. It didn’t snow that Christmas. Another month passed, no snow. But February. That February was the best February of my life. It snowed more than it’s ever had in my whole life that winter. I remember my mom always telling me to thank Jesus for everything. That week I thanked Him for the snow.

First Point:

Children have an unbelievable amount of faith. Why can’t we now? What happened that caused us to lose our faith? It’s like we stopped believing that God can move mountains or make it snow in Louisiana. We don’t believe that God can move in our situation. It’s not a matter of “can He?” It’s a matter of “do you believe He can?” It may be that He’s just waiting on you to believe He can do it. He can heal the sick. He can cast out your feelings of depression and anxiety. He can take you out of the valley that you’re stuck in and put you on top of a mountain. Do you believe He can??

We need to get back to that place where we have a child’s faith. We need to believe that God can move in our lives just like a child believes that Santa brought him gifts. We need to get to that spot where we stop saying that you can’t and say that He can.

Second Point:

Don’t give up. Don’t stop praying. Consistency in prayer matters. I prayed so many nights asking God if He could make it snow that Christmas. I believe He saw how much I wanted it because of two things. I believed He would, and the consistency of my little prayers. Make your requests known to God. Don’t stop praying if you get discouraged.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭(NKJV)

Let me just break down that verse.

“Be anxious for nothing,”

Don’t fear. Don’t be afraid of the “what if’s”. Don’t let the devil stop you from praying because you’re scared of the outcome or that God will say no. Even if He does, it’s for YOUR own good.

“but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,”

In EVERYTHING. Pray. Close your eyes, kneel down, lift your hands, whatever you feel comfortable with, and pray.

Supplication is defined as: the action of asking or begging for something earnestly and humbly. Show God how much you want it. Pray and actually mean it!

What does “with thanksgiving” mean? In the NLT version, this verse says to thank Him for all He has done. So after you pray and ask God for whatever you asked for, thank Him. Thank Him for everything He’s supplied you with. Thank Him for letting you breathe today. Just thank Him.

“let your requests be made known unto God;”

GOD WANTS YOU TO ASK HIM FOR THINGS. We’re His children and He loves to talk to us. Don’t be afraid! Don’t be afraid to ask Him for anything!!

Third Point:

Sometimes the wait is longer than you wanted. Maybe you prayed for something specific to happen at a specific date and time (like I did). Maybe it didn’t happen when you wanted it to. Maybe you’re mad or upset with God. Well listen here you goose. Compared to God, you know nothing. He created and holds all the answers to the universe. He breathed your goosey tail into existence. (Ima say this again for dramatic effect….) Compared to God, you know nothing.

He knows what’s best for you. His timing is everything. The reason the wait may be so long is because He’s forming you. God does things like that. He allows you to break, just so you can come to Him and be repaired. There’s beauty in the breaking (😉). There’s a purpose behind the waiting. The waiting sometimes is the only reason we give it to God because we don’t wanna wait anymore.

He could be making you wait for many reasons: so you can learn to be patient, because it simply isn’t the right time for someone else, that He wants you to hold onto faith until the very last second, or any reason He knows you need. He loves us, that’s why we have to wait.

God sees our faith. Faith isn’t just shown through prayer; it’s shown in your actions too. You can pray all day and tell God you have faith, but you have to show it too. For example: if you have faith that God is going to give you a better job, then keep that faith when you get fired. If you have faith that God is about to move you to a mountain, have faith in the valley. Don’t stop believing that God can.

You can’t do this by yourself. You simply cannot, but God can. Think of the limitless possibilities that can happen with God… it’s amazing, isn’t it? Have faith in Him.

“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19:26‬ ‭(NKJV)
