True Beauty

“You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”
-1 Peter 3:4

Beauty is such a broad term. Many things can be considered beautiful. The sky, poems, music, flowers, people… the list goes on and on. The definition of beauty in the dictionary is “a quality pleasing to the senses, especially the eye or ear”; beautiful is described as “pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically.” But do really know true beauty? What even is true beauty? How can we achieve true beauty in a society that tells you what to do to be considered attractive?

What is true beauty?

Everyone wants to be beautiful. Don’t even try to deny it. Every single girl that’s ever lived has looked in the mirror before and wanted to change something about herself. If you google the term beautiful, the definition will say, “pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically.” As for beauty, it’ll say,”a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.” The second one will say, “a beautiful woman.” Yes people are beautiful, but true beauty is not physical. True beauty can be defined by the way you act and the sweetness of your spirit. You can have the best cheekbones, the prettiest eyes, or the perfect body, but if you have a hateful spirit, none of that matters.

True beauty is showing love to those around you, even if it’s just by smiling. It’s shown when you’re in your darkest time and you choose to lift others up. It’s self sacrificing.

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
-1 Corinthians 13:4-7

How can I be beautiful?

  • “How to make your hair shinier than ever!”
  • “Update your style!”
  • “Get an amazing body!”

These are all things that are advertised on popular magazines triggered toward females. It’s funny how badly these magazines contradict themselves. On page 53 it’ll say something like, “how to lose weight fast” or “Flat abs in 20 minutes.” Then on page 55 it teaches you how to make a triple chocolate cheesecake from scratch. Society tells you to love yourself for who you are, but our “role models” have had plenty of plastic surgeries and wear so much makeup that we wouldn’t recognize them without it.

am I pretty yet¿?

True beauty is not what you wear, nor is it how you look. True beauty comes from your spirit. I cannot express that enough. Beauty is shown when you talk to that person sitting alone, when you hug that friend that’s having a hard time, or when even you simply smile. A smile can go a long way.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”” – 1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭
